The Philadelphia Phillies are 8-10, and there are plenty of concerns with the team going forward. The offense is stagnant, and there are even some concerns with the pitching staff now.
One of those concerning pitchers is Jesus Luzardo, who, against the Chicago Cubs, allowed nine runs (eight earned) in a brutal outing that cemented the series loss.
As Paul Casella of MLB.com noted, this was Luzardo's second start of such poor quality in his Phillies career, which joined Hall of Famer Robin Roberts for the last pitcher in franchise history to have two such bad stats in their career.
"Tonight is the 2nd time Jesus Luzardo has allowed 12+ hits and 9+ runs in a start (also May 31 last season)," Casella notes. "The last Phillies pitcher to have multiple starts of 12+ hits and 9+ runs at any point: Hall of Famer Robin Roberts (one apiece in 1951 and '55)."
Whenever a pitcher joins some franchise history with Robin Roberts, it's normally something to celebrate. But not this time.
Luzardo's second blowup start in the past two years was a brutal 5.1 innings, 12-hit, nine-run outing with one walk and four strikeouts against the Cubs.

It's not the first time he's struggled this much, as last season against the Milwaukee Brewers, he allowed 12 hits and 12 runs across 3.1 innings in one of the worst outings of his career. He followed it up with a nine-hit, eight-run outing a few days later.
Hopefully, Luzardo will not follow up this rough outing with another such performance like he did the last time he allowed at least 12 hits and nine runs.
Luzardo joined a Hall of Famer in some franchise history on Wednesday night, but for the wrong reason.
But Roberts has shown it's possible to bounce back from such a poor outing, as he went on to make the Hall of Fame and is one of the best pitchers in franchise history.
