The New York Jets have enough draft capital to put together a team that can compete in the AFC by the start of the 2027 NFL season.

The Jets decided to trade a couple of their star players when it was.clear that the 2025 season was a bust — and in return — got a haul of picks in return for the 2026 and 2027 drafts.

This year alone, New York has nine total picks, with six of those coming in the first four rounds. They have the first round pick they acquired from the Colts in the Sauce Gardner trade (No. 16 overall) and then their own first round pick (No. 2 overall). Then they have two second round picks, two fourth round picks, a fifth round pick and two seven round picks.

In next year’s draft, the Jets already have three first round picks. They will have their own, the additional pick they picked up from the Colts for Gardner and the first round pick they got from Dallas for Quinnen Williams.

So on paper, the Jets have a chance to load their roster with young talent so that when they select a franchise QB, he will have a chance to succeed right away.

There has been speculation New York may use one of their picks on Alabama QB Ty Simpson, or they could pick up one of the other passers to learn behind Geno Smith in the later rounds. Most analysts believe they will wait until next’s years class to draft their hopeful franchise QB, as it’s supposed to be a far more talented class.

NFL Insider Charles Robinson says Garrett Wilson trade not impossible

No matter who is playing quarterback for the Jets, the assumption is that the offense will be focused on getting the ball to star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who they signed to a four-year $130 million extension last July.

But Yahoo NFL Insider Charles Robinson lists Wilson as an under-the-radar potential trade candidate to keep an eye on come draft night.

“This one is flying a little under the radar given that the Jets do not appear to have interest in moving off Wilson right now,” Robinson wrote.

“But there are a few teams that view Wilson among potential trade inquiries if the draft doesn’t break their way at wideout. And while it seems unlikely the new Jets regime would trade both Sauce Gardner and Wilson after signing them to extensions last offseason, I’d never say it’s impossible”

It sounds like moving Wilson would be a massive long shot, but in a weak class of receivers for the right price, anything can happen.
