As many New York Jets fans found out a few years ago, having Joe Douglas make decisions isn't always the best idea. Not that Douglas has no idea what he's doing, as he actually had some promising moments throughout the NFL Draft process for New York, but he certainly isn't the greatest executive in the NFL.
However, he was given another opportunity by another team in the league, as the Philadelphia Eagles hired him as an assistant. According to the latest from The Athletic, it sounds like Douglas actually has a bigger role than we initially thought.
âJoe Douglas has a big voice in the organization. Sometimes, a former general manager serves in an advisory role while biding time for the next job. Douglas was in a hybrid position between the front office and coaching staff last season. But the former Jets general manager now has the title of senior vice president of football operations, which is actually a loftier title than when he was Rosemanâs No. 2 before going to the Jets.
"The Eaglesâ front office structure has changed since then (specifically with the creation of assistant general manager titles), but Douglas is atop the organization chart on the scouting staff. This is not an emeritus position; this is a major job, and if you watched the Eaglesâ behind-the-scenes footage from draft weekend, you see that Douglas is in a leadership position,â Zach Berman of The Athletic wrote.
I'm curious to see the type of impact Douglas has on the organization, as most of it should be positive.
Because of how good an executive Howie Roseman is, I have full trust in this organization to do all the right things. Ultimately, most of the moves will come from him, and that should continue to be viewed as a positive.
Joe Douglas has been appointed as the senior vice president of football operations for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jets fans worry about Douglas's decision-making skills based on his previous tenure as their general manager, which included mixed results.
Douglas's current title as senior vice president of football operations is considered a loftier position than when he served as Howie Roseman's No. 2 before joining the Jets.
