The New York Jets are likely deciding between two players with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Those two players are both edge rushers, and both have plenty of buzz about their odds of being the Jets first round pick.
Ohio State's Arvell Reese and Texas Tech's David Bailey are the two clear favorites for this pick. But after the Jets canceled the top 30 visit with Bailey in the week leading up to the draft, a lot of the noise around the situation changed, and speculation grew.
However, as the Jets shared on Tuesday morning, general manager Daren Mougey revealed insight into the Bailey top-30 visit cancellation, and what it means for the Jets and overall for the NFL draft.
"In regard to David, we had good touch-points with him at the combine, we went to his pro day, had a good dinner with him, and we were just kind of juggling into our 30s and how to use them," Mougey said. "I wouldn't look too much into a cancellation, because there was other ones that we may have changed as well."
The Jets cancelled their top-30 visit with Bailey in the lead-up to the NFL Draft, inspiring plenty of speculation over what it could mean for the No. 2 pick.
But this insight from Mougey helps to clarify just what the Jets were thinking with this cancellation. The Jets had other uses for the top-30 visits, and they've already done their due diligence with the Texas Tech edge rusher.
The Jets not using the top-30 visit on Bailey doesn't mean that he's the pick or that he's no longer an option. According to Mougey, it was just a strategy to better prepare for the upcoming draft.
Mougey also revealed what the Jets typically use the top-30 visits for, which helps to further clear the air on what Bailey's cancellation of a visit means.

"I would say for us, when we do top 30s, every single player and case is different," Mougey said. "Sometimes I want this player to meet with our player engagement department. Some players I want to meet with our sports performance team. Sometimes it's purely medical. Sometimes it's a recruiting process. Sometimes it's a smokescreen."
It's fascinating to hear Mougey outright say that some of the teams' top-30 visits are a smoke screen, as that would mean the Jets are bringing in players that they might not have a real intention to draft.
But, regardless of how the Jets are using their top-30 visits, Mougey is calling for Jets fans not to worry about the cancellation of Bailey's top-30 visit.
It's not a big deal in Mougey's eyes, and it seems that Bailey and Reese are still in a tight competition for who will be the pick at No. 2 overall. It's fluctuated all offseason, and it will likely continue to change all of the way up until the Jets finally make this pick.
