The New York Jets made a surprising pick at No. 16 overall, as, according to SNY's Connor Hughes, the Jets are drafting Oregon Ducks' tight end Kenyon Sadiq in the first round.
With the Jets in need of offensive firepower, it's not a major surprise that the Jets are taking offense. But this pick is a bit more interesting than a typical offensive pick at this spot.
Most importantly, this selection is some bad news for one player on the Jets roster: 2025 second-round pick Mason Taylor. He is now in trouble of losing his starting job, and might be the No. 2 tight end for the Jets in 2026.

The Jets drafted Taylor with a premium pick during the 2025 NFL Draft, and one year later, with the same regime in charge of the draft, they've selected another tight end.
For a position that's not considered premium, it's an odd decision. And for Taylor, the tight end the Jets took a year ago with the No. 42 overall pick, it's a worrying development.

The Jets aren't going to spend a first-round pick on a tight end just to not play him. Taylor might not be seeing as much playing time in 2026 as he did a year ago.
He wasn't very productive, catching 44 passes for 369 yards and one touchdown in his rookie season for the Jets. But with poor quarterback play, the Jets' rookie tight end didn't have much chance to produce.
But now, the Jets are taking Sadiq, who had 44 receptions for 560 yards and eight touchdowns for Oregon this past season.
Unless Frank Reich utilizes multiple tight ends in their offense, Taylor doesn't look likely to have nearly as much playing time in 2026 as he did this past season.
This unexpected Sadiq pick is some tough news for Taylor, as he now might be somewhat phased out of the Jets offense, as No. 2 tight ends aren't utilized much across the NFL.
