The New York Jets are expected to select either David Bailey or Arvell Reese with the No. 2 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Analysts recommend drafting Bailey, a 14.5 sack edge rusher, to avoid repeating the Jaguars' mistake of passing on Aidan Hutchinson.

The New York Jets own the No. 2 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and they are all but locked into taking one of two players with this pick.
Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey and Ohio State linebacker/edge hybrid Arvell Reese are the two players Aaron Glenn and company are considering with the second pick.
For NFL.com's Bucky Brooks, he is urging the Jets to go with the 14.5 sack edge in Bailey for one reason: the Jacksonville Jaguars mistake of passing on Aidan Hutchinson.
"If Aaron Glenn follows the team-building blueprint that worked successfully at his previous spot in Detroit - where the Lions took Aidan Hutchinson second overall back in 2022 - he will grab the most dynamic pass rusher available to feature as the centerpiece of his defense. With that in mind, I think Texas Tech's David Bailey gets the nod over Ohio State's Arvell Reese," Brooks writes.
This is a fascinating angle to take on the discussion about the No. 2 overall pick. With the Jets likely deciding between Reese and Bailey, there is plenty of debate about which player the team should take.
The top prospects are Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey and Ohio State linebacker/edge hybrid Arvell Reese.
Analysts suggest the Jets should draft Bailey due to his impressive 14.5 sack record and to avoid the Jaguars' mistake of passing on Aidan Hutchinson.
The Jaguars made the mistake of not selecting Aidan Hutchinson, which analysts believe the Jets should avoid by choosing Bailey.

Brooks believes the Jets should go after Bailey, the 14.5 sack edge rusher from Texas Tech, over Reese. While there might be a lot of upside with Reese, Bailey is the safer pick and could be more productive right away.
For Darren Mougey and especially Glenn, getting instant-production is key to keeping their jobs this upcoming season.
Both are likely on the hot seat after a rough 2025 season in which the Jets didn't record a single interception all year. While Bailey might not directly catch an interception, his pressure could force errant throws that turn into picks.
Regardless of Bailey's actual impact in the NFL, Brooks believes that the Texas Tech edge is the best option at No. 2 overall for Glenn and company.
The Jaguars passed on Hutchinson for Travon Walker, and let the Detroit Lions (with Glenn in-house) land one of the best young pass rushers in the NFL currently.
Bailey, who's been super productive in college, could be such a player for the Jets. AS Brooks writes, "Bailey is the most ideal fit in 2026" for the Jets.
