Jim Furyk will captain the United States in the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor.
The 55-year-old is appointed to the role for a second time having overseen defeat to Europe in Paris in 2018, and joins Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Davis Love III as the only repeat US Ryder Cup captains since the inclusion of players from continental Europe in the event.
Furyk has served as either a player, vice-captain or captain in each of the last 14 Ryder Cups since making his debut at Valderrama in 1997, and steps in after Tiger Woods withdrew himself from consideration for the position.
Woods had been the presumed favourite for the role in Ireland next year but announced last month that he was stepping away from golf after being charged with driving under the influence following a car crash in Florida.
The United States have not won the Ryder Cup on European soil since 1993. Europe have won the last two editions under the leadership of Luke Donald, who will skipper the side again at Adare Manor.
“The opportunity to captain the US Ryder Cup Team for a second time is a tremendous honor,” Furyk said. “I am deeply grateful to the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee for entrusting me to lead our team into the 46th Ryder Cup.
“My passion for the Ryder Cup and dedication to the US Team have never been stronger. Having previously captained the team, I understand the responsibilities and immense pride that come with this role. I look forward to drawing on that experience while incorporating some new ideas as we prepare for 2027. I am committed to putting our players in the best position to succeed as we work to reclaim the Cup on European soil.”

The United States were heavily beaten in Furyk’s previous Ryder Cup as captain, losing 17.5 to 10.5 at Le Golf National. The captain faced criticism from Patrick Reed, a strong contender to play again next year having left LIV Golf, following the event over his limited involvement.
Furyk will be tasked with forging a team spirit to rival that of Europe’s close-knit, settled unit having been a vice-captain to Keegan Bradley at Bethpage Black last year. Still popular among PGA Tour players, his nine appearances as a player rank second all-time in US Ryder Cup team history, while his 34 career matches are tied for third.
The 2027 Ryder Cup will be held 17-19 September. The first tickets for the event sold out in an hour on Friday morning despite high prices.
