Clearly, there is a desire to win the Larry O'Brien trophy in the eyes of the Lakers organization. But, how much and how soon do they want it? Coach Redick had an answer after they got eliminated in the NBA Playoffs, via Sam Amick and Dan Woike of The Athletic.
"I believe in continuity, but I do think that thereâs â if youâre trying to win a championship with this organization, and listen, Iâm trying to win a championship. I know Pelinkaâs trying to win a championship. I know Jeannie Buss is, I know Mark Walter) is. Like, weâre trying to win a championship. And so you have to be realistic and assess where youâre at. And weâre not good enough right now," the Lakers head coach said.
There is a lot of truth in Coach Redick's statement. The Lakers were not at all up to par against the Thunder as they got swept. Even in the series against the Houston Rockets, a lot of cracks surfaced which might have even cost them the series. All of these woes need to be fixed so that they are able to contend for an 18th NBA championship to tie the Boston Celtics.
A Lakers championship will come but even the front office does not know when.
