Between their increased volume of shots beyond the arc (and their efficiency with the 3 more generally) and their attack on the big men of the Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia 76ers found a way to right the ship in Game 2 of their first round series with Boston.
The Sixers were clearly perturbed by their Game 1 blowout at the hands of the Celtics at TD Garden on April 19, and clapped back from the Philadelphia backcourt, falling 111-97 at home on Tuesday (April 21) evening. "I think ... you always go back to that, that’s the low-hanging fruit to look at," said Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla of the Sixers guards creating problems Boston struggled to solve.
"I think it starts with the stuff that we can control," added Mazzulla. "In the second quarter, (we) gave up a free throw rebound, gave up two catch-and-shoot 3s to (Quentin) Grimes, who have a chance when he makes shots, they’re a different team."
Joe Mazzulla plans to improve the Celtics' pick-and-roll defense and control key aspects like rebounding and catch-and-shoot opportunities.
The 76ers bounced back from a Game 1 loss, defeating the Celtics 111-97 with increased shooting efficiency and effective attacks on Boston's big men.
Mazzulla noted issues with free throw rebounds and allowing catch-and-shoot shots, which put pressure on their overall defensive strategy.
