John Blackwell, a 5-star transfer and the No. 3 overall player in this year’s transfer portal, will put on a Duke uniform next season.
The former Wisconsin guard announced his commitment to the Blue Devils on Tuesday, according to 247Sports’ Travis Branham.
Last year for the Badgers, the 6-foot-4 Blackwell put up 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 43.0 percent from the floor, including 38.9 percent from the three-point line and 85.9 percent from the charity stripes in 33.8 minutes per game.
The rising senior went off in the Big Ten Tournament, putting up 34 points in the quarterfinal win against Washington before scoring 31 points as the Badgers took down Illinois in the semifinals. In Wisconsin’s first-round loss to High Point in the NCAA Tournament, Blackwell finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, his third double-double of the season.
He joins Cayden Boozer, Caleb Foster and incoming 5-star recruit Deron Rippey Jr. as players who expect to fill out the guard rotation for Jon Scheyer next season and makes Duke an immediate favorite to win the national title.
