Mikel has rightfully called out their biggest mistake though, or at least it is their biggest mistake in my opinion – they have literally gutted out the entire club of anyone who was formerly here under the previous ownership and they have refused to bring in any former players to any roles. John Terry has a tiny role in the academy, but that’s literally it.
Job Obi Mikel lays into Chelsea’s owners.
In words picked up on X this week, Mikel said on his latest Podcast:
“It’s this thing of BlueCo not wanting anyone who represented the football club before and who helped build the club to what it is today. They don’t want the people still, which is the wrong thing to do.
“You need to continue that success. You need the people who knew what it took to build the football club to what it is today. You need the people to continue the success, the culture. We don’t have that any more.”
Chelsea’s transfer of Joao Pedro worked out, and the club will surely try to repeat the trick this summer in the market. He’s been a rare example of buying proven quality for the here and now.
