John Simpson is set to restore physicality to the Ravens' offensive line, emphasizing a dominant playing style. The Ravens targeted him early in free agency, aligning with their goal of reestablishing a tough identity this season.
The Ravens have made it very clear they want to reestablish a more physical identity up front this season, and John Simpson says that message was front and center in free-agent conversations with Baltimore.
After already proving himself during his 2023 season with the Ravens, Simpson says the organization knew exactly what they wanted him to bring back to the offensive line room this time around. Baltimore targeted him early, believing his mentality and style of play matched what they want offensively moving forward.
During an appearance on The Lounge with Ryan Mink and Garrett Downing, Simpson discussed the message he repeatedly heard from the Ravens coaching staff and front office.
“Yeah. Their main thing was just bringing that tenacity back. I guess you can call it, and just being physical and just trying to be a dominant force. And that’s basically all they were telling me, everything that they wanted me to bring to the table. And I was just like, ‘Hey, look, I’m gonna do everything I can for y’all, man.’ Because like I said, this is like home. And the guys that are in this building, they’re all like my brothers. So I got to go crazy for these dudes.”
That mentality fits perfectly with the identity Baltimore wants offensively. The Ravens have always been at their best when they control games physically at the line of scrimmage, and Simpson sounds fully ready to embrace that role again this season.
