John Yannis met the media Saturday after his win over Jamie Siraj at UFC Fight Night 273. Yannis (10-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) put away Siraj (14-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a brutal ground-and-pounded TKO to open the prelims at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Yannis' vicious elbows closed the show. The win was Yannis' first in the UFC, and it came on the road against a Canuck in Siraj who had a long road to the promotion that included a brain illness that left him in a coma several years back. It also came after a full camp, though, which was a far cry from what he had for his UFC debut last August – a submission loss to Austin Bashi he took to save the fight on four days' notice. "I took eight months off and grinded. I came from a loss, so I felt like I had something to prove coming into enemy territory. It feels good, and I couldn't ask for a better night," Yannis told the UFC after the win. "Coming off the 'L' is awesome. For Bashi, I took the fight on four days' notice at a weight class higher. I truly believe I'm one of the most dangerous guys at 135, so a full camp at 135 against an opponent, I'd put the house on me every single time."

— UFC (@ufc) April 18, 2026 The 31-year-old Yannis, from Texas, built his pre-UFC bona fides in Fury FC, where he beat UFC vet Nick Aguirre to win the 135-pound title before he got the short-notice call-up for Bashi last year. After four straight decision wins in Fury FC in 2023, Yannis started winning with his hands, and he's glad to get that going again in the UFC, particularly for his first win. "I'm a dangerous guy at 135," Yannis said. "I love to let these hands go. When they feel it, they usually shoot. I'm looking forward to giving some shows. There are a lot of names out there that I know matchmaking is probably looking and saying, 'Let's get it going (for Yannis),' and I don't shy away from a fight, so let's get it going. "… When I was fighting on the regional scene, I was fighting four or five times a year. Activity is what I want. I love to be inside that cage." Check out Yannis' post-fight interview in the video below. “I felt like I had something to prove.”
