There is certainly a debate to be had around the third best golfer on the PGA Tour right now, behind Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
Scheffler and McIlroy have been the leading figures for several years now, particularly dominating at major championship level.
McIlroy has won back-to-back titles at The Masters, while Scheffler won the PGA Championship and The Open Championship last season.
But their closest challenger on the PGA Tour is worthy of a discussion, with Matt Fitzpatrick now ranked third in the world after winning the RBC Heritage.
Johnson Wagner has now shared his verdict, referencing the likes of Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young among others.
Wagner said on Golf on CBS: āI think if Collin Morikawa was healthy, I think itās him the way heās playing right now.
āFitz is making a run for it. And Chris Gotterup, what heās done, I think heās got the firepower and heās young.
āThere are a lot of different candidates there. I donāt think thereās necessarily a solid third right now.
āBut Cameron Young, I mean coming off his Players victory to give himself a chance at Augusta. Probably, if you made me pin it down to one, it would be him.
āJust with his skill set, how far he hits it, how consistent heās become, how great heās performed in major championships in his short career.
āI think Cameron Young is the best three-man right now.ā

Intriguingly, it is Fitzpatrick and Gotterup who not only lead the aforementioned candidates for the most wins this season, but the entire PGA Tour.
They each have two victories, with the Englishman winning the Valspar Championship and the RBC Heritage, and the American winning the Sony Open and the WM Phoenix Open.
Meanwhile, Morikawa and Young have one win each at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship respectively.
It does, however, come down to more than wins alone, with Youngās overall form arguably placing him in the driving seat.
Morikawa, Gotterup and Fitzpatrick have all shone, but Young really impressed with his Players win, which he followed up with a T3 finish at The Masters.
Heās made the cut in all eight of his PGA Tour events in 2026, from which he has recorded one win, two third-place finishes and three top fives.
His proposed status as the third best player could, of course, change rapidly, especially with the likes of Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose also playing some fine golf of late.

Johnson Wagner has not explicitly named the third best golfer, but he suggests there is a debate around this position.
Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Championship and The Open Championship last season, while Rory McIlroy has won back-to-back titles at The Masters.
The debate exists due to the dominance of Scheffler and McIlroy, making it challenging to determine who ranks just below them.
