Jonathan Toews has given a clear but measured update on his future with the Winnipeg Jets after completing his comeback season. The veteran center admitted he is still undecided about playing in the next NHL season but made one thing clear that if he continues, Winnipeg remains his priority.
Toews returned to the NHL this season after a two-year break, signing a one-year deal with his hometown team. At 37, he played all 82 games, recording 11 goals and 29 points. While his offensive numbers were modest, he remained effective in the faceoff circle and brought leadership to a young roster.
Speaking at the end-of-season press conference, Toews said, “A hundred percent, if they’ll have me. I’ve really loved being part of this locker room this year. That being said, if I decide to play next year, then I’d love to be part of this group again. But, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
When asked directly about his playing future, he added, “No [I’m not sure] Yeah.”
