The trio came together to speak on one of Brentford’s benches, first installed at the training ground by Michael to give players, coaches and staff a safe and confidential place to talk. This season, Brentford installed a collection of benches in west London to encourage its local community to open up about mental health.
Each bench, delivered in partnership with the London Borough of Hounslow, includes information signposting to professional mental health support services, as well as crisis support for those experiencing a mental health emergency.
The Talking is the Best Tactic initiative sees the club and Brentford FC Community Sports Trust utilise its platforms and community outreach to raise awareness of suicide prevention measures, highlighting the importance of conversation and encouraging those in need to seek help.
As part of Brentford’s work in this area, free monthly drop-ins are hosted by the Community Sports Trust to provide attendees with access to mental health expertise, while the Trust also offers free support through the BeeActive Football or Comedy for Thought sessions, which are facilitated by experienced talking therapists.
The conversation aims to raise awareness about mental health, pressure, and the importance of discussing these issues openly.
