Jordan Spieth struggled at the 2026 Masters Tournament, finishing with an opening round of 72 and unable to break 70 in subsequent rounds. He ended the tournament 10 shots behind the leaders despite feeling he played well.
AUGUSTA, Ga. ― Jordan Spieth's mindset was clear following an opening round 72 at the 2026 Masters Tournament.
“Anything can happen. You just have to be staying within reach,” the 2015 Champion said. Unfortunately for Spieth, he didn’t.

Following Thursday’s 72, he was unable to break 70 on Friday (73) or Saturday (70), and entered Sunday 10 shots behind Cameron Young and Rory McIlroy.
“I feel like I'm playing great golf,” Spieth said after a final round 68. “I don't feel like my results are showing it.”
Speaking to reporters after Sunday’s round, Spieth stated that his ball-striking this week was, “I hit it better than (2015) and I hit it way better than any of the second places. … probably the best I ever hit it here.”

When asked where it went wrong, Jordan said, “I think I left 20-something putts short this week.”
In all, Spieth had 125 putts over the four days, including 33 on both Thursday and Friday.
“I typically putt these greens very well,” Spieth said. “That part is a bit frustrating.”
The Texan’s mind then sprinted ahead to next week at Hilton Head. “Putting can be streaky, so just need to get on the right streak and go try to win next week,” he said.
