Liverpool is reportedly targeting RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, who has scored 13 goals this season, as their top priority this summer. Discussions around potential changes in the forward line have highlighted Diomande's name consistently.
Journalist believes 13-goal forward is Liverpoolâs âtopâ target this summer
Liverpoolâs summer planning was discussed in detail on Anfield Indexâs Media Matters, with Dave Davis asking David Lynch about attacking targets and the possibility of a major change in the forward line. After a wider conversation about Arne Slot, Chelsea and Liverpoolâs poor performances, Davis turned the focus towards wingers, saying they are the âpriorityâ this summer.
One of the key names raised was RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, who has scored 13 goals across all competitions this season. Davis said: âThereâs two men on the screen there, Yan Diomande, Red Bull Leipzig, Bradley Barcola.â He also noted that âitâs always been Diomande every weekâ, before adding that the traction around that story âseems to have reducedâ while Barcola was being âmentioned more and more frequently.â
Asked about the chances of either Diomande or Barcola arriving at Anfield, Lynch put the likelihood âquite highly.â He said: âI would lean to kind of, you know, seven or eight.â
On Diomande specifically, Lynch suggested that Paris Saint-Germainâs interest could become a major factor. âI think PSGâs interest in Diomande just feels like a factor here,â he said, while making clear he had âno particular insight on thatâ and was ânot close to PSG at all.â
Yan Diomande is viewed as Liverpool's top target due to his impressive performance, scoring 13 goals this season, which aligns with the club's need for attacking reinforcements.
In addition to Yan Diomande, Liverpool is also considering Bradley Barcola as they look to strengthen their forward options this summer.
Liverpool's poor performances have prompted discussions about significant changes in their forward line, making wingers a priority in their summer transfer strategy.

Still, his reading of the situation was clear. If PSG move for Diomande, then it could change the market around Barcola. Lynch explained: âIf they do go for him, it clearly opens up the possibility of Barcola leaving.â
That leaves Liverpool in an interesting position. Lynch said Liverpool âdo like both of them,â but he appeared to place Diomande at the top of the list, saying: âTo me, he probably looks like, you know, the premier winger thatâs on the market this summer and would maybe be top of Liverpoolâs list.â

The Salah element gives this winger discussion greater weight. Lynch spoke with clear respect for the Egyptian, calling him an âunbelievable footballerâ and saying it had been âa privilege to kind of watch him play down the years.â
At the same time, Lynch discussed Salahâs decline and the tension around his relationship with Slot. He said: âSlot is not the reason that Salah has declined in the way he has.â He also added: âThat comes for everyone, that physical decline.â
The important point is that Liverpoolâs transfer planning is being framed around the need for at least one winger. Lynch was emphatic on that. âTheyâll definitely sign a winger, at least one winger this summer,â he said. âThat is guaranteed, ten out of ten, absolutely going to happen.â
That line is significant. Whether Diomande is viewed as a direct Salah replacement or part of a broader attacking reset, Lynchâs view was that Liverpoolâs need in wide areas is certain.
