Alisson Becker’s future became one of the most striking topics on Anfield Index’s Media Matters, as Dave Davis asked David Lynch about reports linking the Liverpool goalkeeper with Juventus.

Davis introduced the subject by saying: “Juventus are advancing in talks to sign Alisson Becker,” referencing reports from Alex Crook on talkSPORT. He then asked Lynch to score the chances out of ten that Alisson would still be at Anfield next season.

That question now sits within an important contractual context. Liverpool have triggered the clause in Alisson’s contract to extend his deal until 2027, which means next summer, but Juventus are believed to be pushing hard to sign the Brazilian this summer.

Lynch gives low chance of Alisson staying

Lynch’s answer was blunt. Asked about the chances of Alisson remaining at Liverpool, he said: “Yeah, I’d be surprised at this point.”

He then added: “I think there’s just a lot of smoke there.” That was not presented as certainty, but it was clearly more than a passing rumour in Lynch’s reading of the situation.

The key issue, according to Lynch, is where the decision now lies. “Clearly what’s happening here is that the decision is on the players’ side really,” he said. In other words, Liverpool may hold contractual control after extending Alisson until 2027, but the goalkeeper’s own wishes could shape what happens next.

Lynch framed it as a choice for Alisson: “Does he want to move on and try something new or does he want to stick around because he’s under contract?”

Liverpool may not block transfer

One of the strongest parts of Lynch’s answer concerned Liverpool’s likely stance. He said: “Liverpool will give him the choice of either as long as their needs in terms of a transfer fee are met.”

That line is significant. It suggests Liverpool would not necessarily force Alisson to stay, despite the extension clause, if Juventus or another club meet their valuation and the player wants the move.
