The New York Mets have a few problems on both sides of the baseball, and it's evident that something has to change for this organization to be what it expects to be.
Some of that can be blamed on the health problems the Mets have dealt with, including the biggest injury. Juan Soto is undoubtedly one of the best five players in this game, and whenever he isn't on the field, we should expect the Mets to be a bit worse of a team than they typically are.
However, that doesn't mean we need to see an epic collapse like the one theyâre currently in, hardly a month into the season.
Unfortunately, though, some of this looks like it will continue for the foreseeable future. The latest suggests that Soto isn't healthy right now, and a return from his calf injury doesn't look to be coming in the immediate future.
âSotoâs return from a calf strain doesnât appear imminent. He did not travel with the team and is doing his rehab work at Citi Field. At the time of the injury on April 3, the Mets suggested a timetable of two to three weeks. Soto, however, hasnât yet started a running programâŠ
âDuring the same pregame news conference Monday, Mendoza also said the Mets remain in the early stages of Sotoâs situation and he could even undergo another MRI if the club deems it necessary,â Will Sammon wrote.
This doesn't mean Soto can't return in the next month or so, or even sooner, but until he starts running, there isn't much to talk about.
It's also a bit concerning that skipper Carlos Mendoza said he could go for another MRI, as we hadn't heard that before his comment.
