FC Barcelona are in the market for a new centre-forward heading into the summer transfer window. And, Atletico Madrid superstar Julian Alvarez has emerged as their priority target.
The Blaugrana see the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner as the ideal profile to strengthen the No. 9 position before next season.
As reported earlier today, Barça have also made initial contacts with Atletico Madrid to test the waters and learn their stance on a possible transfer.
This comes after reports suggested that Alvarez’s entourage had already begun looking for a house in Barcelona.
Speaking to the media ahead of Atletico Madrid’s UEFA Champions League semi-final tie against Arsenal, Alvarez has addressed the rumours linking him to Barcelona.
“I try not to give too much importance to what they say, because the truth is that every week new things come out, all kinds of new information,” the Atletico Madrid superstar said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“I try not to waste energy on that and to focus on what we’re doing here at Atleti,” he added.
When probed about the matter once more, Alvarez was firm in his response, stating: “I try not to give too much importance to what’s said in the media, because it often starts becoming a snowball of lies.”
The Argentine striker further added: “I can’t keep going out to clarify or deny everything that comes out all the time.”
Alvarez has been at Atletico Madrid since 2024, having arrived from Manchester City. He has a contract with the club until 2030, which includes a €500 million release clause.
The Rojiblancos are trying to extend his contract further amid growing interest in their ace goalscorer.
