Neuer took the occasion to wish those teammates well. “We can celebrate today in style, given the result and the way we played. We also said goodbye to Nicolas Jackson, Rapha Guerreiro and Leon Goretzka – all of them are deserving players,” the Bayern captain said. “So it’s all the more wonderful we’ve turned in a good display on such a day with the championship celebrations.”

For Neuer, this is fifteen seasons in a Bayern Munich uniform, and he has only missed out on the Bundesliga title twice in that span. “The 13th title is still special of course. It feels wonderful to me because we deserved to win the title. I think we were dominant in the league from the start, so this championship title is just as special as the first one,” the veteran shared.
While Neuer started today, he was substituted around the hour mark for Jonas Urbig. Fortunately, it was only a precaution. “I felt something in my calf and didn’t want to take any risks with regard to next week,” Neuer confirmed. After all — celebrations aside, there is still another trophy on the line for Bayern this season. Bayern will face VfB Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal Final next Saturday, May 23rd — and the captain expects to be between the sticks.
