Justin Rose endured a tricky second round of the PGA Championship on Friday, shooting a three-over 73.
That followed his even-par 70 on day one at Aronimink to take his total to three-over, just below the projected cut line of two-over at the time he entered the clubhouse, which quickly changed to three-over.
The Englishman is chasing his second career major win this week, and holed out for eagle from distance at the very last to give himself a great chance of making the weekend.
But Rose has been far from his best at this year’s PGA Championship, where his irons have understandably come under the spotlight.
He put new McLaren irons in his bag ahead of the Cadillac Championship two weeks ago, which he discussed after his second round at Aronimink.
Asked on Sky Sports Golf how he feels going into the weekend, he said: “Oh my God, two more days of that!
“No, obviously it is a good opportunity to go and find something. I have been hitting everything right off the tee, not being able to stay in posture or stay in my shots.
“I am losing everything to the right, no start line or club face control. It has been a bit of a struggle out there, for sure, but I want to find it.
“I feel like there is a score to be had out there for sure, I can kind of see it on this course. It’s a course I have played well in the past, it fits my eye, I like it.
“If I can go and post two good rounds on the weekend, it’s been such a fun leaderboard. So many guys are within two or three shots of the lead.
“If I can stick around at the weekend, I feel like I can still have a great week.”

And discussing his new irons, he said: “That is the best part of my game at the minute! Putting has been hit and miss, I have holed some good putts but not enough.
“Unfortunately I am just not putting the ball in play off the tee at the minute. So I have not given it much opportunity out of the fairway right now.
“It’s been an area of my game which has created some attention I suppose, but it has been part of my plan for a long, long time and something I have been thinking of for a long time.
“I have been excited to finally do it. But unfortunately not playing well to back it up. So hopefully put my ball in the fairway and then I can show off a little bit!”

It was an intriguing decision from Rose to say the least, given both his impressive efforts just before the switch and indeed the timing of it.
He had only just finished in a tie for third at The Masters, again narrowly missing out to Rory McIlroy after losing to his Ryder Cup teammate in a playoff at Augusta in 2025.
The Englishman went on to finish T65 at the Cadillac Championship and T45 at the Truist Championship, with a much better result now being eyed at Aronimink.
Rose shocked fans with his irons switch, but the very experienced 45-year-old clearly thinks they will benefit him going forward.
