Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Justin Wrobleski had the best outing of his career Monday, and gave some credit to LA legend Clayton Kershaw afterwards.
Wrobleski threw just 90 pitches through eight innings, during which he only allowed two hits. The southpaw carried a perfect game into the fifth inning and was on Maddux watch before Tanner Scott relieved him for the ninth.
âIf I can spot my heater, I think thatâs something I can do,â Wrobleski said. âThatâs something that Kersh did forever. Not saying that weâre the same guy, but at the same time, you can learn from the greats in that respect. They keep it simple.â
The outing was the longest of Wrobleskiâs career, and by far the most impressive despite only recording two strikeouts.

Prior to Mondayâs start, Wrobleski had made just two appearances for the Dodgers in 2026.
His first appearance of the year came against the Cleveland Guardians following a four-inning Roki Sasaki start, where he pitched four innings of his own and allowed three runs with two strikeouts. Wrobleski made his way into the starting rotation for the Dodgersâ series against the Toronto Blue Jays last week and made his first start of the season, posting five innings and allowing a single run.
On the season, Wrobleski has a 2.12 ERA through 17 innings pitched with six strikeouts.
While Wrobleskiâs performances so far in 2026 definitely warrant his spot in the rotation, that may not be the case when the Dodgers have all of their players back from injury.
Blake Snell is one of the players who could take the final spot in the Dodgersâ core of starters, and heâs due back as soon as the end of May.
Thatâs not to say Wrobleski wonât stay with the team, though, as he is clearly a valuable arm for the Dodgers for the remainder of the season. Heâs no stranger to middle and long relief, so a role similar to the one he had last season could be in the cards if the Dodgers avoid any injuries among their starters.
What did you think of Justin Wrobleskiâs start yesterday?
Justin Wrobleski allowed only two hits during his eight innings pitched against the New York Mets.
Justin Wrobleski credited Clayton Kershaw for influencing his pitching, emphasizing the importance of learning from great players.
A 'Maddux' refers to a complete game shutout thrown on fewer than 100 pitches, and Justin Wrobleski was on Maddux watch before being relieved in the ninth inning.
