TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Wildcats were unable to outlast the Bearcats on Friday night.
Kansas State University baseball (26-23, 9-16 Big 12) dropped Game 1, 4-2, against Cincinnati (34-17, 14-11 Big 12). The Wildcats trailed by two runs after the first two innings and were able to battle back in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2.
Ty Smolinski would get the ‘Cats on the board with an RBI double, and Grant Gallagher scored the tying run with an RBI double to right-center field.
Cincinnati regained the lead at the top of the seventh off a two-out RBI single. The Bearcats would then add another run in the ninth to extend its lead to two.
The Wildcats would have the tying run up at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Shintaro Inoue flied out to left, ending the game.
Game 2’s first pitch is set for 4 p.m. Saturday.

The final score was 4-2 in favor of Cincinnati.
Kansas State's record is now 26-23 overall and 9-16 in the Big 12 after this loss.
