Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer has recently shared an update on injured Crimson Tide running back EJ Crowell.
A true freshman, Crowell came to Alabama this offseason as one of the top names in the Crimson Tide's 2026 class, but missed essentially all of spring practice due to an injury. Despite this, Crowell is still expected to play a key role in Alabama's backfield next season, with the big question coming out of spring being when the freshman would be available.
DeBoer shared the latest update to that question Wednesday at the Regions Tradition Pro-Am in Birmingham, with Alabama's head coach suggesting Crowell could be back to near 100% in the near future.
āI think by the time we get to June, he will be in a good spot,ā DeBoer said. āThatās everything Iām hearing and feeling, and thatās going to be really critical for him to get the summer in, not just from a workout standpoint, but they run the player-run practices. Just any reps for him are good, quality ways for him to continue to improve his development here, especially early in his career.ā
Crowell came to Tuscaloosa this offseason following an accomplished prep career in the state of Alabama where he attended Jackson High School, with the running back rated as the nation's No. 15 player nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Also ranked as the nation's No. 2 running back, Crowell was also a five-star recruit.
The five-star joins an Alabama 2026 running back room that returns Daniel Hill, Kevin Riley, and AK Dear, while also having added Trae'shawn Brown and Khalifa Keith.
