Everton vs Liverpool: Preview, Lineup, and How to Watch
Four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati from Utah has committed to Michigan football, announcing his decision on April 14. He previously decommitted from Illinois and is ranked as the No. 2 player in Utah and No. 9 quarterback nationally.
The Kyle Whittingham era of Michigan football has its first quarterback commitment.
Four-star class of 2027 quarterback Kamden Lopati pledged to the Wolverines on Tuesday, April 14, per multiple posts on his Instagram. Lopati, a rising senior, out of West High School in Salt Lake City decommitted from Illinois earlier in the week, which led many to believe he was headed to Ann Arbor.
Team Pearls' Kamden Lopati (0) throws the ball during the Under Armour All-America Game Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026 at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand.
Lopati stands 6 feet 3 and 220 pounds and was rated the No. 2 player in Utah, No. 9 quarterback in the country and No. 122 player regardless of position according to 247 Sports' composite rankings. He will join a team led by coaches previously in his hometown, including Whittingham, offensive coordinator Jason Beck and quarterback coach Koy Detmer Jr.
"Savvy dual-threat quarterback that excels as a vertical passer and a power runner in a spread attack," wrote 247 Sports director of scouting Andrew Irvins. "Built almost like a linebacker and measured just under 6-foot-3, 225 pounds in advance of senior year.
"Dangerous on the scramble and is the type of number that defenses have to account for in the RPO game with his vision and creativity."
Lopati ran a 11.98 in the 100-meter dash and a 24.91 in the 200 meters as a freshman, according to his recruiting profile. Recently, he participated in the Under Armor All-America Game (9-for-15 passing for 105 yards) as an underclassman and last season led West to an 11-2 record, and appearance in the 5A semifinals.

As a junior, he completed 114 of 176 passes (64.8%) for 2,671 yards with 34 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while carrying the ball 90 times for 730 yards (8.1 yards per carry) and 10 more scores. He was a wide receiver as a freshman and caught 29 passes for 510 yards (a 17.6-yard average) and two scores before he made the move to quarterback.
Lopati, who had offers from programs including Arkansas, Georgia, Notre Dame and Oregon, uses his athleticism as a dual-threat signal caller. He is believed to have notable upside at the collegiate level.
"Will hit his first read and keep an offense on schedule, but tends to make some of his best tosses when working off-script as he constantly extends plays with his short-area quickness and pocket awareness," Irvins wrote. "Projects as a potential Power Four starter that can thrive in a system that wants to capitalize on his mobility."
He is the sixth recruit in the rising senior class for U-M, a crop that ranked No. 30 in the nation prior to Lopati's commitment.
