Patrick Kane talked like a player who wants to continue playing for the Detroit Red Wings. But he also needs a minute or two to sort out why he is going to be missing the playoffs again.
This used to be his Showtime. That’s how he got his nickname. It hurts not to be in the postseason
“Everything’s so fresh right now,” Kane said. “I thought we’d be playing right now. You think you’d be in the playoffs and not thinking about (contract) stuff. Definitely (will) take the time, sit down with, agent, family, figure that stuff out.”
But Kane, 37 was clear that he is thinking about coming back for a fourth season in Detroit.
“I’d love to be part of the solution that helps us get over the hump for sure,” Kane said. “I think there is mutual interest to come back, continue my career here. It’s been a great spot for me, my family, my son. It’s. It’s been a great spot to continue my career. I’ve definitely enjoyed my time here. The organization has been absolutely incredible with me and my family, which is appreciated. . . I don’t think anyone’s in a rush to make any decisions or anything like that. So we’ll see how everything plays out.”
Patrick Kane spoke positively about his future with the Detroit Red Wings, suggesting he is inclined to remain with the team.
Kane's potential decision to stay in Detroit could impact the team's performance and future roster decisions.
Kane's positive outlook may influence the Red Wings' strategy in building their roster and pursuing future success.

A Kane contract renewal is critical for the Red Wings. They struggled offensively in five-on-five situations, and Kane and his linemate Alex DeBrincat were the team’s best five-on-five players in the later stages of the season.
Even if they land Kane, the Red Wings will be looking for a No. 2 center and a scoring winger. If Kane chooses to go elsewhere, replacing his offense (57 points in 67 games) would not be easier. While Kane has been undermined by injuries from time to time as an older player, he has still been productive. Over three seasons, even missing time with injuries, Kane boasts 57 goals and 163 points.
DeBrincat’s presence on this team is a major draw for Kane staying. “I love playing with Alex,” Kane said, “and we have a great friendship, great relationship. I’d love to continue playing with him.”
DeBrincat put up his third 40-plus goal season, and Kane’s talent complements him. Kane said DeBrincat and he both have the same goal of helping this team have playoff success. In final analysis, Kane felt the Red Wings were a better team than teams that qualified this season.
“When we’re on our game, we proved that throughout the year,” Kane said. “Teams we played that are in playoffs, I think we’ve played well against — not all of them, or not every game, but I think we proved that throughout the year that we can beat anyone.”
Asked whether the team underachieved,” Kane said: “You can say that. . . everyone’s very frustrated by it and somewhat embarrassed.”
