Kansas baseball (38-15, 21-7 Big 12) grabbed a 9-6 Game 1 win against BYU (26-26, 13-15 Big 12) on Thursday night. The win solidifies a share of the Big 12 regular-season conference title regardless of how other teams perform. KU needs two more wins to earn the title outright.
This win marks 21 wins in the Big 12 conference this season, the most in program history.
The Jayhawks grabbed the lead in the first when Tyson LeBlanc hit a solo home run to center field.
Kansas would extend its lead to four with a three-run third inning.
In the fifth, Josh Dykoff would hit a two-run homer to push the ‘Hawks to a six-run lead.
At the bottom of the frame, the Cougars would put up four runs to put them right back in the game. BYU would add two more in the sixth inning to tie the game 6-6.
It would be Dykoff again going yard, this time in the seventh, to regain the lead for Kansas.
KU would hold BYU scoreless in the final three innings to secure the win.
Boede Rahe got the win on the mound. Through three innings pitched, he allowed just two hits, zero runs, zero walks and recorded five strikeouts.
Game 2 on Friday is set for 7 p.m.
