Kansas baseball makes a statement over the weekend with a series sweep over No. 12 UCF to take the top spot in the Big 12.
The Jayhawks completed the sweep with a doubleheader win (6-3, 3-1).
With the sweep, Kansas has now won 10 straight games.
Kansas took Game 1, 6-3, behind a strong showing from Dominic Voegele on the mound. Through seven innings, he struck out 10 batters, which tied a career-high. He allowed five hits and three runs.
Max Soliz Jr. got the party started in the second for KU with a two-run home run to get the āHawks on the board.
Josh Dykhoff added to the lead in the third with a three-run double as KU jumped in front 5-0.
UCF would score three runs across the seventh and eighth to pull within two scores.
Jordan Bach would add an insurance run in the latter half of the eighth with a sac-fly as KU won 6-3.
In Game 2, Brady Ballinger opened the scoring, grounding out to third to bring in the opening score.
The Knights responded in the third with a single to tie the game. In the bottom half of the inning, Cade Baldridge singled to bring in the go-ahead run.
Augusto Mungarrieta had a sac-fly in the inning to make it a 3-1 win for the Jayhawks.
Mason Cook got the win for the Jayhawks on the mound. Through six innings, he allowed three hits and one run while striking out six.
Boede Rahe got the save for KU. He pitched the ninth, allowing on hit while recording one strikeout.
Toby Scheidt and Madden Seidl both pitched in relief.
The Jayhawks look for its 11th straight win on Tuesday for an in-state contest as Wichita State comes to town.
