The Kansas City Royals were defeated by the Athletics on Thursday, losing 6-3. Maikel Garcia ended up going 3-5 in the game with a home run, but he also had an injury scare during the matchup. Garcia, a third baseman, dove for a line drive and the ball seemed to hit him in the bottom part of his hand or his wrist.
Garcia seemingly ended up being okay, and manager Matt Quatraro shared an update on what occurred after the game, via MLB.com.
"We didn't know exactly where it hit him," Quatraro said.
Quatraro added that the team did a "full evaluation to make sure nothing was broken."
The Royals were happy to see that Garcia was okay. Garcia made sure everyone knew he was fine without saying a word. The injury scare happened in the first inning. He then hit a home run in the second inning. As mentioned, he would finish the matchup with three hits.
The Royals need Garcia on the field without question. He is one of the team's best players. Kansas City has struggled this season, so losing Garcia would unquestionably be far from ideal.
The All-Star third baseman is hitting .274/.341/.442 across 29 games played. He has also hit three home runs, eight doubles and one triple.
In 2025, Garcia recorded a slash line of .286/.351/.449 while hitting 16 home runs and 39 doubles. Not only did he earn an All-Star selection, but Garcia won a Gold Glove and finished 14th in All-Star voting.
Garcia played well after his injury scare, but the same cannot be said for the Royals overall. They are now 12-19 after the defeat. Kansas City remains in last place in the American League Central standings as well.
