TOPEKA (KSNT) â Bring out the brooms for the Jayhawks.
No. 16 Kansas (33-11, 17-4 Big 12) completed the Sunflower Showdown sweep on Sunday, April 26, beating rivals K-State (26-18, 9-12 Big 12) 9-7.
Kansas has now won 17 of its last 18 games.
Both teams got busy early, each plating four runs in the second inning.
The action didnât stop there as both teams scored in the third, with the Wildcats taking a narrow 6-5 lead heading to the fourth inning.
Kansas scored three straight across the next three innings before the game was delayed due to the weather.
After nearly a five-hour delay, the game resumed in the sixth inning.
Both teams added a run in the ninth as the Jayhawks would complete the sweep winning 9-7.
Dylan Schlotterback was 3-4 from the plate for the Jayhawks, leading the team with four RBIs. He had a three-run home in the second and an RBI double in the fifth inning.
Tyson LeBlanc and Tyson Owens each had solo home runs for Kansas.
For K-State, Ty Smolinski was 2-4 and provided four RBIs from a grand slam in the second inning.
Bear Madliak, Micah Kendrick, and Dee Kennedy provided an RBI each.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, April 28, for midweek contests.
The Jayhawks head to Wichita State to take on the Shockers while K-State heads to Lincoln, Nebraska, to square off with the Cornhuskers.
