Kansas women’s soccer coach Nate Lie signs new 5 year deal with KU

LAWERENCE — Kansas women’s soccer head coach Nate Lie has signed a new five year contract, according to a Tuesday release from KU.

Lie’s deal will take him through the 2030 season, according to KU director of athletics and vice chancellor Travis Goff. It comes after he’s led the Jayhawks to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 2024 and 2025, and a Big 12 Conference tournament championship in 2024. In 2025, KU also made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.

“It’s hard to imagine a tenure starting stronger than Nate’s has here at Kansas,” Goff said in a Kansas release. “He has won a championship and elevated Kansas Soccer to the highest levels in a short time. Moreover, he and his staff have represented KU in a world-class fashion, while developing our young women both on and off the pitch. Kansas Soccer is in great hands, and we couldn’t be more excited to have Nate, his wife Emily, and their three wonderful children in Lawrence for years to come.”

Lie, who coached at Xavier before taking over at Kansas ahead of the 2024 season, expressed how grateful he was to KU’s leadership and for his ability to represent the university. He detailed that any on-field success that has been achieved is a testament to the work of those various individuals in the athletics department, in addition to the efforts of the athletes themselves. He referred to the program pillars of “Pride, Unity, Grit and Gratitude,” as a guide.

This past season, Kansas finished 16-6-3 overall. It reached the Big 12 tournament final, before losing to BYU. KU’s loss in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament came against Duke.

“My family and I have loved becoming part of the Lawrence community and we’ve been overwhelmed by the unconditional support of Jayhawk Nation,” Lie said. “I am so incredibly honored and humbled for this continued opportunity, and I am driven to help lead this program to new heights.”
