Duke women’s basketball coach Kara Lawson appeared on Front Office Sports and talked about her crazy year: she’s got her Duke job obviously, but she’s also going to be the US women’s national coach, and she’s also going to be an analyst for Prime’s WNBA coverage.
As she explains it here, the Prime job is connected to her Team USA gig: she doesn’t see the WNBA up close, and this way, she’ll see the players before she has to think about putting the team together.
It’s pretty audacious, but being at Duke, she has a world-class expert on this exact job split, and she can wander over and knock on Mike Krzyzewski’s office door anytime and pick his brain. Since he coached Team USA for 12 years, he knows the ropes as well as anyone.
One big difference: the Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 will take place in Berlin, Germany, from September 4-13. It’s going to be much more of a balancing act for her than it was for Coach K.
