Karate Combat president Asim Zaidi is not happy with âWingedCâ for the stunt he pulled during Saturdayâs event in Miami.
A one-time Karate Combat veteran, WingedC a.k.a. Malcolm Schuyler was in attendance at the KC Apex this past Saturday when he decided to enter the pit pretending to be a blind man during a light heavyweight fight between former UFC fighters Claudio Ribeiro and Curtis Millender. The referee stopped the bout until Schuyler was removed from the pit.
âThat was really crazy,â Zaidi told MMA Fighting. âWingedC called me after to apologize to me. And I said, âBro, you donât even know how bad you did.â Itâs bad for so many reasons. No. 1, fighter safety. Itâs horrible. Horrible. But No. 2, my personal reason, I signed a lease. Look, UFC has an Apex. We have our own Apex now. I signed the lease on Wednesday, 48 hours before the show, for nine years.
âYou jump in my pit. What if the commission says, âHey, Awesome, weâre taking away your promoter license.â Now Iâm stuck with this stupid warehouse Iâll have to pay all this money for nine years. [He said] âOh, I didnât think of that.â Yeah, bro. Of course you didnât think of that, but you have to think itâs not just about you getting views. Is the health of the fighters, the health of the business. How are you going to make the promotion look? I hired you to do fun things, but now people are going to think I hired you to do something stupid like this? Are you crazy?â
Zaidi said WingedC realized he âmade a big mistakeâ and apologized and then asked if was getting fired over his stunt.
âBro, right now youâre fired. I donât wanna talk about this,â Zaidi said. âI would never ask a crazy guy like that to jump into the pit. Not only for the fighter safety, but also for me. If I lose my promoter license and I signed this lease for nine years, my Apex, are you kidding me? Itâs so stupid. Itâs crazy.â
WingedC claimed on social media he was assaulted by Millender at the fighter hotel later that night. Millender lost his Karate Combat 61 match by TKO to Ribeiro.
âI didnât get to see the full video, but I saw a video where the guy smacked, like slap him from the back of the head,â Zaidi said of the incident. âI might be wrong because I saw it once and it disappeared on Instagram. I donât know if it was a punch or a slap, but I saw slap in the back of the head. Allegedly, WingedC said he dropped the guy, all this stuff.
âAgain, I donât care about the details, I care more about there were three street fights in one week and this guy jumps in the pit. I never in my life have one street fight, one problem in my event. This is just disappointing.â
WingedC entered the pit pretending to be a blind man during a fight, which led to the referee stopping the bout.
Asim Zaidi expressed strong disapproval, highlighting concerns for fighter safety and the potential impact on the promotion's reputation.
Zaidi warned that such actions could jeopardize the promotion's license and financial commitments, especially after recently signing a nine-year lease for their venue.
