While many people with speech impediments try not to speak a lot because they are self-conscious about it, soon-to-be NFL wide receiver KC Concepcion does the opposite.
The former Texas A&M Aggies used to let other people's critiques of his stutter get in his way, but now he pushes himself to talk even more. Concepcion used to attend speech therapy classes, but stopped after he believed it made him more self-conscious about how he speaks.
At the 2026 NFL Combine, the wide receiver spoke to media, and stuttered a couple of times. Some social media trolls got on his case, but KC didn't let a few sour grapes get in his way. He embraces the way he is and urges those who are like him that his success is also their own.
Here's a look at Concepcion and how he uses his platform as an athlete to stand by those who also stutter, and push them to live their life how they want.

Concepcion felt that these classes only made him more self-conscious about his stutter, and he chose a different approach. Now, he intentionally speaks more often to get comfortable with how he speaks.
Concepcion does not let his impediment get in his way. In fact, he does quite the opposite. Following his discussion with the media at the Combine, social media trolls jumped on his back for stuttering. However, Concepcion was used to being picked on during his childhood and has come to terms with how he is. He issued the following statement on Instagram, saying that he was blessed to be in this position and that he wants to help those who are too scared to speak up. Here is his full statement:
Yes, the wide receiver does have a stutter.
However, Concepcion doesn't let this get in his way. He views his speech impediment as a permanent part of his identity. He has stated that he wants to be a role model for others with speech impediments. In "A Letter to NFL GMs" on The Player Tribune, Concepcion urged those who have an impediment not to let it get in their way. That's not who they are, it's just a part of them. KC said that his success is also their own success:
"So, to any kid out there who is carrying something heavy right now — a stutter, something that makes you feel different, anything that’s ever made someone look at you sideways … just know this: My success … it is your success, too. I want you to come along on this journey with me. Because you and me? We’re not weird. There is nothing wrong with us. Whatever makes you different — that’s not the thing holding you back. That’s your thing. Own it. Be you, fully. Without apology."
During the 2026 NFL Combine, Concepcion got a chance to speak with media. In the clip, he discussed that his father was a fan of the Buffalo Bills. Along with that, the wide receiver gave praises to Josh Allen, saying, "Josh Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. I would be grateful."
Viewers, unfortunately, made fun of Concepcion for his stutter during the press conference, which he later addressed in a post. KC is used to the way he speaks, and he has grown up around people who have poked fun at his speech impediment.
Instead of becoming angry, Concepcion is an advocate for the way he speaks and urges anyone else with a tough time public speaking not to shy away.
