2026 NFL Draft: Who are the fantasy winners and losers?
Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe struggled in Game 3 against the Boston Celtics, shooting 5-for-17. Teammate Kelly Oubre Jr. expressed confidence in Edgecombe's ability to bounce back, referencing his strong performance in Game 2.
CAMDEN, N.J. -- As the Philadelphia 76ers look to move on following their Game 3 loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday, there are plenty of aspects that need to be addressed for Philadelphia. The Sixers had issues rebounding late, which led to big Celtics buckets, and there were other issues to address.
One of those issues was the tough shooting night from VJ Edgecombe. The rookie guard shot only 5-for-17 from the floor and he was 0-for-7 from deep on a night where he did so many good things. He had 10 points with 10 rebounds and five assists, but he was unable to figure it out.
With that being said, Edgecombe has had a unique ability to find a way to bounce back from poor performances. The biggest example was Game 2 in Boston when he had 30 points and 10 rebounds and was 6-for-10 from deep after going 0-for-5 from deep in the Game 1 loss.
"I just told him to remember what he did when he was in Boston," Kelly Oubre Jr. said at a film session on Saturday. "This is a game of ebbs and flows. You know what you’re capable of and we all have 100% faith and confidence in you. He was telling me things about certain plays and I was like, ‘Bro, you weren’t saying this in Boston. You were just flowing and being yourself.' So, just be you."
So, while the Sixers have some issues in other areas that will need to be addressed heading into Game 4, they can feel confident that they can count on Edgecombe to get the job done.
"I think he gets determined, for one, and I think he’s got really good, level composure," added coach Nick Nurse. "I don’t think he gets too down or too high. I just think he’s a competitive kid who plays with determination, and that usually takes him a long way with the bounce-back games."
The Sixers will head into Game 4 on Sunday night.
