The New York Mets are mired in a difficult season, and one Major League Baseball insider thinks the team is getting desperate for change. Ken Rosenthal is giving his two cents on the Metsâ latest move. New York is bringing up outfielder A.J. Ewing from the minor leagues onto the teamâs roster.
âIâd say itâs pretty darn near an act of desperation,â Rosenthal said, per Foul Territory.
Rosenthal added that the team may be putting too much pressure on the young outfielder. He is ranked as the teamâs no. 2 prospect, according to ESPN.
âWhat are the Mets doing here? They are asking A.J. Ewing to inject them with some energy at a time when they are absolutely struggling,â he added. âIt is a lot to ask. Thereâs no question itâs a lot to ask.â
The Mets are dealing with all sorts of injuries right now. Rosenthal said Ewing may not have the experience needed to pick up the slack for the team at this moment. The numbers add some validity to that statement.

âEwing has played just 12 games at Triple-A Syracuse, where he had an .827 OPS in 51 plate appearances and five stolen bases. Ewing excels on the bases and stole 70 bags across 124 games in the minor leagues last year,â ESPN reported.
New York is dead last in the National League East this season. The season has been a disaster to this point, as the Mets were considered to be a contender to win the NL pennant before the season started.
The Mets are 15-25 on the year. New York plays on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers.
