The Kentucky Wildcats staff, especially Mo Williams, has been working diligently on the recruiting trail since Williams was hired by Mark Pope as an assistant. The Wildcats have set their sights on a top player in the 2027 class.
This week, Williams extended an offer to one of the top shooting guards in the class of 2027, Chase Lumpkin, who announced the offer on Tuesday.
Lumpkin a 4-star recruit who’s ranked at No. 45 in the Rivals Industry Rankings. The Powder Springs, Georgia native plays his high school basketball at McEachern, where he’s being heavily recruited.
Lumpkin is coming off a phenomenal weekend at Nike’s EYBL, Atlanta Session. where he showcased his impressive talents and was also named MVP of the weekend by Rivals. He averaged 26 points, 7 boards, seven assists, and 2.7 steals on the weekend. Lumkin, the do-it-all guard, is certainly a player the Wildcats would like to have heading into the 2027 season.
The Cats have had interest in Lumpkin for a while now, as he’s made his way to Lexington twice, as he saw the Wildcats’ takedown of Purdue in an exhibition game, and the close loss to North Carolina in last season’s ACC/SEC Challenge.
UK’s staff have been hard on the recruiting trail for 2027 as Pope and others have been visiting quite a few players, while trying to add to their 2026-27 roster. They recently visited Ryan Hampton, the No. 9 player in the ‘27 class, then extended an offer to him. The Wildcats also made the top five for Obinna Ekezie Jr., the No. 2 player in the 2027 class.
Both Hampton and Ekezie Jr. are considering reclassifying to the class of 2026, which means the Wildcats could add them ahead of the upcoming season. It’s unknown if either of them will ultimately make the cut, but it’s certainly a possibility.
As for Lumpkin, he’s now firmly on Kentucky’s radar when it comes to building the 2027-28 roster!
