On Wednesday, the KHSAA’s Board of Control voted 15-2 to approved adding girls flag football as a high school state championship sport for the 2027-28 season. Kentucky becomes the 23rd state in the country to approved the growing sport to their list of sanctioned championship sports. Also approved was pickleball, which will also start in 2027-28.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) earlier on Wednesday became the 22nd state in the country to sanction girls flag football as a state championship sport.
Recently, the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA), District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCSAA), New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) and Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) each announced that they had approved girls flag football as a sanctioned state championship sport.
