McGonigle hit his first major-league homer Sunday, turning on a 97-mph fastball from Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara in the fifth inning of the series finale at Comerica Park. McGonigle hit the no-doubt blast on the first pitch of the at-bat, sending it 408 feet (with a 108.8-mph exit velocity) deep into the seats in right field.
The home run was the eighth extra-base hit for McGonigle, in his 16th major-league game.
The Tigers led, 6-0, in the sixth inning as they were going for the sweep. Dillon Dingler hit his third home run of the season, a three-run shot in the first inning.
Tigers ace Tarik Skubal went 5.2 innings before allowing his first hit.
