Detroit — Kevin McGonigle entered the 2026 season as the consensus No. 2 prospect in baseball. Now, he's under contract with the Tigers through at least the 2034 season, after signing a historic contract extension Wednesday.

McGonigle was born Aug. 18, 2004, in Media, Pa. He is 21 years old.
McGonigle was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the first round (No. 37 overall) of the 2023 MLB Draft. He signed for a bonus of $2,847,500, forgoing his college commitment to Auburn University.
McGonigle made his professional debut with the Tigers' rookie-ball team in 2023, before moving up to play with the Low-A Lakeland Flying Tigers.
McGonigle began the 2024 season with Low-A Lakeland, before he was promoted to High-A West Michigan.
