Wembanyama and Edwards go head-to-head in a tied Game 3 first half
Four-star cornerback Chase Johnson has committed to Virginia Tech, choosing them over Florida State and Louisville. This decision impacts FSU's 2027 recruiting class, which currently lacks cornerback commitments.
Mentioned in this story
Back in late March, four-star cornerback Chase Johnson said the FSU Seminoles were the top school in his recruitment, something that is no longer the case. Johnson committed to James Franklin and the Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday night, according to 247Sports.
Johnson is from Swainsboro, Georgia, and picked Virginia Tech over the Seminoles and Louisville Cardinals. While FSU had been recruiting him since August 2025, Virginia Tech offered him a scholarship on April 30 and landed his commitment shortly after. He was set to take an official visit to Tallahassee in June, but that now looks to be in doubt.
He is ranked as the No. 366 overall player and No. 37 cornerback in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 41 player from Georgia.
New FSU cornerbacks coach Blue Adams has struggled to get blue-chip prospects on campus since being hired, with Johnson was one of the few they appeared to have a good shot at landing. Missing out on him is a blow to their 2027 recruiting class that could be tough to solve. The Seminoles currently have six commits, including three at safety, but none at cornerback.
