Konnor Griffin is now a very rich man.
On Wednesday, theĀ 19-year-old shortstop signed the largest contract in Pittsburgh Pirates history, agreeing to aĀ nine-year,Ā $140 million contract extensionĀ that runs through 2034.
That's a lot of money for a teenager. Naturally, many Pirates fans are wondering what he's going to do with it.
On Thursday, Griffin gave a surprising answer when asked about his plans for the new contract on Barstool's "The Yak."
"I'm just gonna take care of myself and make sure I'm good to go," Griffin replied.
The Barstool hosts immediately started teasing him for not saying anything about taking care of his family, especially with his father just a few feet away.
"I'm talking about making sure I'm ready to play baseball. That's my goal," Griffin clarified.
That makes more sense, as Griffin definitely doesn't have to worry about money anymore. He can just focus on baseball and becoming the best player he can be, which might be a Hall-of-Fame caliber one if MLB's top prospect reaches his full potential.
