Kyle Busch crew chief changed again after NASCAR Cup winless streak reaches 104 races
Kyle Busch, who has not won a NASCAR Cup Series race since 2023, was assigned a new crew chief on April 27.
Richard Childress Racing announced that Andy Street has been hired as Busch's third crew chief in seven months. Street worked with Busch for the final six races in 2025 after Randall Burnett left the team.
Street replaced Jim Pohlmon, who will transition into a leadership role within the RCR competition department. Street will begin leading the No. 8 team immediately.
The move comes the day after Busch posted a 10th-place finish in the Talladega NASCAR race. It was Busch's best finish in the 2026 season, but it extended his winless streak to 104 races.
“This move is about putting our people in the best position to succeed,” RCR chairman and CEO Richard Childress said in a release. “We have strong talent across this organization, and we’re focused on having each person in the right position to help deliver the results we expect.”
Street has been with RCR for more than 20 years and previously served as performance director. Before ending the 2025 season with Busch, Street was crew chief for Jesse Love and Austin Hill in their Cup starts.
Busch is a two-time NASCAR Cup champion with 63 victories. His last win, however, came at World Wide Technology Raceway on June 4, 2023.
“We strongly believe in the people we have,” RCR President Mike Verlander said in a release. “At the same time, we expect better results, and that requires us to continually evaluate and make adjustments. Jim has more than two decades of success in this sport and will remain an important part of our team. We believe Andy and Kyle’s previous working relationship positions us to improve the No. 8 team and compete at a higher level.”
Kyle Busch changed crew chiefs due to a prolonged winless streak of 104 races in the NASCAR Cup Series.
