La Liga chief doesnât want Barcelona to win league title vs Real Madrid in El Clasico â hereâs why
With just five matches remaining until the end of the season, Real Madrid are staring at the possibility of handing Barcelona the La Liga title in the upcoming El Clasico at the Camp Nou.
It is a scenario that nobody at the Bernabeu wants, and it appears La Liga chief Javier Tebas shares similar sentiments, albeit for entirely different reasons.
Speaking to the media at the ADESP annual gala, Tebas made his preference clear when asked about the title potentially being decided in the Clasico.
âI like leagues that are decided in the last league match. Therefore, Iâd prefer it not to be in the Clasico, but well, it seems things are pointing that way, and if thatâs the case, then whoever wins is welcome,â he said (h/t Diario SPORT).

For Tebas, the concern is purely a sporting one. He wants a title race that runs to the final matchday, which is simply better for the competition.
Tebas also weighed in on the broader picture of this seasonâs points tally, suggesting the gap between Barcelona and the rest has exposed underperformance elsewhere.
Javier Tebas opposes Barcelona winning the title due to concerns about the implications for the league's competitiveness and financial stability.

On the subject of Jose Mourinhoâs potential return to the Real Madrid bench, the La Liga president was enthusiastic.
âMourinho has been one of the greatest coaches in the world and is top-level; anything top-level in this competition, I like. Mourinho is always a show, a spectacle, and thatâs good for La Liga,â he concluded.
