The Lady Longhorns have secured a commitment from former Oklahoma guard Zya Vann, who averaged 10.4 points and 2.3 assists last season. Vann's addition is expected to bolster Texas's offense as they aim to continue their NCAA Tournament success.
The Lady Longhorns have finally landed a win in the NCAA transfer portal. On Friday, Texas secured a commitment from former Oklahoma guard Zya Vann. The Edmond native is coming off the best season of her college career and will be a welcome addition to Vic Schaefer's offense.
During the 2025-2026 campaign, Vann averaged a career high 10.4 points and 2.3 assists per game. The talented sophomore was a threat from three-point range, shooting 33 % from beyond the arc. As her playing time increased, Vann took advantage of her opportunities and was hard to keep out of the lineup.
Once the regular season came to an end, Vann continued to impress during the NCAA tournament. In Match Madness play, she shot 42.9 % from the field while dishing out seven assists. The newest Longhorn also added 12 rebounds to her resume while playing at least 24 minutes in every game.
Although Vann is starting a new chapter of her college career, she is joining one of the nation's best programs. The Longhorns have reached the Final Four in each of the last two seasons. They have also made the NCAA Tournament in 12 straight seasons. That is a streak; Vann will be looking to help continue.
As Texas looks to make another deep tournament run, it will have a much different roster. They have lost key players to the portal, including Jordan Lee, Aaliyah Crump, Justice Carlton, and Aaliyah More. The Longhorns will also be without Rori Harmon, who exhausted her eligibility. That is not an easy group to replace, but Vann is a proven scorer and reliable ball-hander.
Over the next few weeks, head coach Vic Schafer and his staff will be hard at work seeking additional upgrades. They at least now have one less position to worry about.
