In Chris Robinsonâs eight years as Lake Highland Prepâs girls lacrosse head coach the Highlanders have faced American Heritage of Delray Beach every year in the final four, with most of those games coming down to the last minute. That doesnât count the 2020 season, which was cut short by the Covid outbreak.
Saturdayâs Class 1A state final was no exception, Superb sophomore Giselle Jaskiewicz scored with 18.9 seconds left to give the Highlanders (21-2) a thrilling 6-5 win at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples.
The goal staved off the momentum from American Heritage (20-2), which scored three consecutive goals in the fourth period to tie the game.
âWe had no fear (when the lead disappeared); we played fearless the whole game,â Robinson said. âWe were going to take the last shot or go to overtime, and we got it to our best player and Giselle was in a great position to score.â
Jaskiewicz had three goals and an assist while Katherine Davanzo, Lily Ventura and Sophie Van Marcke De Lumen had the other goals for LHP.
The state title was the fourth for the Highlanders (2019, 2022, 2025, 2026) â matching number American Heritage has won since 2018.
Molly Connolly had 2 goals and an assist for LHP in its 14-8 semifinal vs. Episcopal of Jacksonville.
Madison Park added a goal and 3 assists in that game.

Oviedo, playing in a lacrosse state final for the first time, lost 13-7 against No. 1 seed Ponte Vedra (17-3) in the 2A final.
Olivia Lunardi and Addison Steinebronn each had 2 goals for the Lions (21-2). Cate Steinebronn, Presley Krantz and Savannah Fryzel each had a goal and an assist in the loss.
Steinebronn had 2 goals and forced 5 turnovers by Tampa Plant in Oviedoâs 11-3 semifinal victory against Tampa Plant. Fryzel had 3 goals in that game and Lunardi and Lexie Slain each had 2.
Winter Park (20-2), the No. 4 seed in the 2A final four, gave top-ranked Ponte Vedra (21-2) all it could handle in a Thursday semifinal. The game was tied 5-5 going into the fourth period before the Sharks pulled out a 6-5 victory.
Lake Highland Prep won the final with a score of 6-5 against American Heritage.

Harmony improved to 19-1 with a 15-7 victory against Fort Pierce Central (13-6). Ninth grade quarterback Ivy Munns threw touchdown passes to senior Ellah Husbands and junior Khloe Cook. Brystol Williams, a freshman, added a safety on defense.
Undefeated Deltona (20-0) won 20-15 against Hernando (14-4). The Wolves senior quarterback, Frantashia Williams, was 25 of 38 passing with a TD pass to Ciara Ash. Camora Pate had 2 interceptions, including a pick-six TD in the win.
The areaâs two top teams, Lake Brantley (26-3) and Horizon (26-3), will face off against each other in a 2A state semifinal set for Thursday at 4 p.m. at Polk State College in Winter Haven. The teams played twice in the regular season with each winning once.
Lake Brantley, which is No. 2 in the FHSAA power rankings, defeated visiting Tocoi Creek 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23 in the 3A Region 1 final on Friday night. The Patriots have won 16 of their past 17 matches. The only loss in that streak was against The Academy of Central Florida â which plays outside the FHSAA.
Horizon, ranked No. 3, played another epic match against No. 4 Freedom and again won with 25-23, 26-28,17-25, 25-21, 15-10 game scores. Freedom finished 26-3 with all three losses at the hands of the Hawks.
Top-ranked Columbus (25-5) plays seventh-ranked Seminole Ridge in the second semifinal. The state final is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16.
Lake Howell (25-5), the reigning 2A state champs, dispatched Bishop Moore 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 to punch tickets to Tallahassee. The SilverHawks, ranked No. 3 in 2A, take a 15-match winning streak into the state semifinal round and have not lost a game in their past five outings.
Lake Howell plays fourth-ranked Archbishop McCarthy (20-8) in a Friday 4 p.m. semifinal. The winner will play either top-ranked Belen Jesuit (24-6) of Miami or No. 7 Gulf Breeze (21-7) in a Saturday night semifinal.
Montverde Academyâs bid for a 1A state championship ended with a 3-0 loss to state No. 1 Tampa Berkeley Prep (24-0) on Saturday at the FSU beach volleyball complex in Tallahassee.
The Eagles finished 18-1.
