Lake Highland Prep and Deltona are set for another epic lacrosse showdown, with both teams currently undefeated at 19-0 and 17-0 respectively. This marks their eighth consecutive meeting in the FHSAA state tournaments, with six of those being state finals.

The most certain annual showdown in Florida high school sports is Lake Highland Prep vs. Delay Beach American Heritage with a girls lacrosse state championship on the line.
The Highlanders and Stallions have faced off in FHSAA state tournaments seven years in a row — not counting 2020, when Covid wiped out spring sports playoffs. Six of those seven matchups have been state finals. Every year since 2018, the winner has claimed the state title.
As the state’s top-ranked teams this year they are almost certain to make it eight years in a row. Both are favorites to win semifinal games Friday in Naples.
No. 2 Lake Highland Prep (19-2) plays No. 3 Jacksonville Episcopal (16-3) at noon at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples. No. 1 American Heritage (19-1) vs. No. 6 Community School of Naples (16-5) follows that game at 5 p.m.
Two renowned coaches who grew up in lacrosse hotbeds before landing in Florida fuel this rivalry.
American Heritage’s John McClain, a Long Island native, built a Florida Select Lacrosse travel team program that feeds his high school team and is a pipeline for college recruiters. His Stallions have won state titles four times (2018, 2021, 2023 and 2024) — all against Lake Highland.
Highlanders seventh-year head coach, Chris Robinson, became a lacrosse legend in Maryland as head coach for McDonogh School, which won 177 consecutive games and nine national titles. He has coached LHP since 2019 and won three state titles (2019, 2022 and 2025) and been runner-up three times.
“We’re going against a Delray team full of all-stars,” Robinson said of Saturday’s presumed clash. “Those kids play together since third and fourth grade. They’ve got eight Division I college recruits. They’re a machine.”
Lake Highland Prep girls lacrosse wins 1A crown; Lake Mary 2nd in 2A
USA Lacrosse Magazine ranks the Stallions No. 1 in the South and No. 7 in the country. Lake Highland is the other Florida team mentioned — on the “also considered” list.
The Stallions lineup includes senior college signees in goalkeeper Ashley Egbert (Maryland), midfielder Hali Horvath (Penn State) and attacker Madison Vargas (FSU).
Lake Highland Prep has a record of 19-0, while Deltona is 17-0 this season.
They have faced each other in FHSAA state tournaments seven times in a row, not counting the 2020 season.
The match is significant as it is expected to be another state championship showdown, continuing a rivalry that has seen the winner claim the state title every year since 2018.
The semifinal games for both teams are scheduled for Friday in Naples.

Lake Highland, a school that runs pre-kindergarten though 12th grade, also has a developmental program. Robinson said most of his players start in sixth or seventh grade.
The Highlanders have two D1 commits in Sally Flynnn (Xavier) and Molly Connolly (American University).
Standout sophomore Giselle Jaskiewicz leads LHP in goals scored (64) and ground balls (37) — just as she did as a ninth grader — and is an elite prospect.
Madison Park, a sophomore, leads in assists (33), and senior Synthia Quiroz is a strong goalkeeper.
American Heritage came to Orlando and squeezed out a 7-6 regular-season win against Lake Highland in February. Robinson said his team played tremendous defense that day but was tentative offensively. That, he said, will have to change to take home another championship trophy.
Five area teams won region semifinals on Tuesday and are a game away from reaching the state tournament. Region finals are Friday.
Lake Brantley (25-3), ranked No. 2 in 3A, outlasted Winter Park 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23 and will play its Friday final at home against No. 8 Tocoi Creek (26-2) of St. Augustine.
Two area teams, No. 4 Freedom (27-2) and No. 5 Horizon (25-3), clash for the third time in the 3A Region 2 final. Freedom has home-court advantage, but the Hawks are 2-0 against the Patriots this season.
In 2A, third-ranked Lake Howell (24-5) hosts No. 6 Bishop Moore (20-9) on Friday.
Bishop Moore’s Gabe Callejas had 42 assists, Cole Ferris 20 digs and Philip Hanna 20 kills for Bishop Moore in its rollercoaster Tuesday 25-15, 23-25, 25-13, 3-25, 15-13 win vs. Lyman.
Winter Park (20-1) won its region final 17-2 against Boone and makes its 15th final four appearance since 1998, and fourth in five years. The Wildcats were state champions in 1999 and runners-up eight times.
But they have their hands full this week. Winter Park, ranked fifth in 2A, is the No. 4 seed and faces off against No. 1 ranked Ponte Vedra (20-2) in a Thursday night 7:30 semifinal in Naples.
No. 2 St. Thomas Aquinas (16-3) plays No. 5 Manatee (20-2) in the earlier semi. Saturday’s final is set for 2:30 p.m.
Oviedo (20-1) defeated Hagerty 20-10 in its 2A region final to punch its ticket to Naples. Savannah Fryzel, the Lions sophomore scoring leader, had eight goals in the victory.
Oviedo, No. 3 in the FHSAA 2A rankings, will play No. 4 Tampa Plant (15-1) in a 5 p.m. game on Friday. The second semifinal pits No. 1 Ponte Vedra (15-3) vs. eighth-ranked Vero Beach (11-11). Saturday’s final is set for 7:30 p.m.
Oviedo, which lost a 2008 semifinal in its only previous final four appearance in girls lacrosse, has won 20 games for the first time.
Lake Mary (18-4), which was ranked No. 2 with a win against Oviedo, got a tough draw in 7A Region 1. The Rams played and lost 7-5 to Ponte Vedra in the Region 2 final.
Harmony and Deltona, the two highest ranked teams in the Orlando area, are the last ones standing.
Harmony (18-1) had to rally to pull out a 26-20 win against Palm Beach Gardens on Monday in a 4A Region 3 semifinal. The Longhorns trailed 13-0 in the first half and 21-7 in the third quarter before mounting their comeback and setting a school record for wins in a season.
The Longhorns are home Thursday night for the final against Fort Pierce Central (13-5). The winner advances to the May 15-16 state tournament in Tampa.
FPC beat Harmony 35-13 in a regular season game last year.
Deltona’s slippery senior quarterback, Frantasia Williams, accounted for all five touchdowns for the undefeated Wolves (19-0) in their 32-7 win against Nature Coast (14-5) of Brooksville. Williams, the state’s scoring leader with 45 touchdowns, scored on an acrobatic 52-yard keeper and threw three touchdown passes. She also scored on a pick-six interception as a cornerback.
Olivia Hall, also a senior two-way player, had a TD catch, a number of flag pulls and an interception that snuffed out a Nature Coast scoring chance.
Undefeated Montverde Academy (17-0) scored a 3-1 region final win against visiting Tampa Prep to qualify for this weekend’s 1A state tournament at FSU’s beach volleyball complex.
The Eagles, ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, play third-ranked Fort Lauderdale Westminster (18-3) Friday night at 6 in a semifinal.
Top-ranked Berkeley Prep (22-0) of Tampa faces No. 10 Jacksonville Episcopal (13-8) at 4 p.m.
