It wasn't widely expected that the injury-wracked Los Angeles Lakers would coast past the Houston Rockets in the first round of the NBA playoffs. After all, Luka Doncic did not play a single minute in the series, and Austin Reaves did not take to the hardwood until Game 5 in Los Angeles.
Even still, LeBron James guided the Lakers safely into the second round. LA went up 3-0 in the series before dropping consecutive games and rallying to win Game 6 to set up a second-round matchup with the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder.

James, 41, averaged 23.2 points, 8.3 assists and 7.2 rebounds against the Rockets. But during the latest episode of his "Mind the Game" podcast with former NBA MVP Steve Nash, James took out a segment to highlight the growth of his son, Bronny, with whom he enjoyed a special moment during Game 3 in Houston.
Midway through the second quarter of the Lakers' eventual overtime win at Toyota Center, James threw his son a lob that Bronny converted for a lay-up. It was part of a stretch in which the Jameses scored 10 straight Lakers points, and LeBron admitted that he "blanked out" when Bronny converted on the alley-oop.
"I've always been locked in, (but) that moment right there, throwing him the lob, seeing him make a three, we're going back-and-forth, I blanked out for a little bit and just really accepted and relished in that moment," James told Nash.
James said it was a script that screenwriters in Hollywood couldn't produce: Bronny's continued ascent into playoff rotation minutes alongside his father. No matter how the Lakers' season ultimately ends, that sequence in Houston will live long in the memory.
"He's made so many strides in his second year, and it resulted in him taking the moment," James said. "Without (Reaves), without Luka, he was next man up. He was one of the guys who had to step up, and to share that moment in Game 3...that's something I will never, ever forget."
